Conducted as part of Pauline Tarlet’s doctoral research, supervised by Vanessa Bourgeaux (Head of Innovation at Skyepharma) and formerly by Marion Quaillet (Head of Project Managers), this program is carried out in close collaboration with the LAGEPP laboratory at the University of Lyon (Stéphanie Briançon, Claire Bordes, and Sandrine Bourgeois). It aims to advance a new generation of oral solid dosage forms.
Precise delivery and long-lasting release are essential to optimizing the efficacy of oral treatments. The MucoTabS innovation program aims to create a versatile technology platform capable of targeting specific regions of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, stomach, small intestine, or colon, while promoting muco-adhesion to extend the residence time of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).
This approach supports local or systemic release with a customized duration, opening the door to lower doses, improved therapeutic performance, and potentially fewer side effects.
MucoTabS tablets combine mucoadhesive properties with pH-responsive behavior, enabling active ingredients to be released exactly where they are most effective within the GI tract.
Such precise, prolonged, and targeted delivery is particularly valuable for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Crohn’s disease, and other disorders requiring finely tuned intestinal delivery.
The patent filing marks a significant step forward in bringing this platform technology closer to real-world applications and further reinforces our commitment to innovation in complex oral drug delivery.
